Truck fire closes weigh stations
Firefighters extinguished the flames that consumed a tractor and the 53-foot trailer it was hauling at the Interstate 81 weigh station in Troutville on Friday night.
The north and south weigh stations were closed until 10:20 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation reported. No traffic interruptions or injuries were reported.
Firefighters were called about 8 p.m. to the station, which is 1 mile south of Exit 158 in Troutville, Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Rob Carpentieri said.
The fire apparently started in the engine, Troutville Fire Department Chief Scott Paderick said. It destroyed the cabin, burned through the trailer, which was carrying clothes, and puffed out smoke that was visible from Roanoke County.
