Roanoke County police are looking for two masked robbers who forced employees and customers at Bennett's Internet onto the floor in a holdup Thursday night.
Men clad in dark clothing with bandannas covering their faces entered the casino-style online parlor on Brambleton Avenue at 10:39 p.m. and demanded money, Detective N.D. Gardner said. The robbers escaped with an undisclosed amount.
An employee who asked not to be named said she and a co-worker were browsing the Internet when the two men rushed in and ordered them and two customers onto the floor facedown. The robbers demanded someone open the combination safe, which she said employees don't have access to.
Her co-worker was able to jiggle the safe open because it wasn't properly locked, and the two men fled the store and dashed through a parking lot beside the building.
The woman said the men motioned as if they were carrying a firearm, but she wasn't certain they were armed.
"They told me to keep my face on the ground, and I wasn't going to take any chances," she said.
She said the incident left her "very shaken."
She said one of the men was about 5 feet 6 inches and skinny. The other was about 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds. She estimated they were in their late 20s.
Owner Ronnie Bennett, who was at home in North Carolina at the time, said he's waiting to hear more from police.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call 562-3265.
