Investigators have identified the man whose body was discovered Sunday along the banks of the James River in Bedford County.

Sean Peter Placko, 42, of Churchville was found dead by a fisherman about 8:30 a.m. near the Snowden Bridge, according to Maj. Ricky Gardner of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office. The bridge connects Bedford and Amherst counties, he said.

Gardner said Placko was reported as a missing person to the Augusta County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 23.

Placko's body has been sent to the medical examiner's office in Roanoke for autopsy. The incident is being investigated by both Bedford and Augusta counties.
