A team of Roanoke Valley firefighters was scheduled to travel to Alexandria late Monday night to assist colleagues there as Northern Virginia braces for another winter storm.
Ten firefighters from Roanoke City, Roanoke County and Salem were expected to leave Roanoke about 10 p.m. and be ready for work in Alexandria by early this morning, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS spokeswoman Tiffany Bradbury. The group plans to be there about four days running calls from Alexandria fire stations.
Alexandria received 24 inches of snow Saturday and is expecting another major storm today, Bradbury said.
The request for help is part of a mutual aid program in which most fire departments across the state participate. The three Roanoke-area fire departments will be reimbursed their expenses, Bradbury said.
