Fourth arrest made in New Year's burglary

Roanoke police on Thursday arrested a man wanted in what is being investigated as a New Year's Day burglary that led to a homicide.

Trent Rashad Jones, 21, of Roanoke was arrested at a residence in Roanoke about 2 p.m., police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said.

Jones is charged with statutory burglary.

The burglary occurred at a house in the 1000 block of Gilmer Avenue Northwest.

When the homeowner and two others, including Charles Carver Gardner II, arrived at the house, they noticed someone inside and tried to approach that person.

Gardner walked to the back of the house, where he was shot, police said. The 35-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Timothy Jose Rhea, 34, of Roanoke was arrested Tuesday in Chesterfield County and is charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a murder and statutory burglary.

Police have also arrested Eric Jerome Jones, 20, and Kenneth J. Stone Jr., 22 -- both also of Roanoke -- and charged them with burglary.
