Tupperware crash causes U.S. 220 delays

A tractor-trailer overturned Thursday on U.S. 220 in Roanoke County and caused significant delays for drivers traveling into Franklin County.

The truck was carrying 19 tons of Tupperware when it rolled on its side near Willow Branch Road just before noon, county police said. No one was injured.

Small vehicles were able to pass the wreck in the left lane, but larger vehicles were asked to wait in the right lane until the road was clear.

Northbound traffic was also stopped at times while tow trucks lifted the tractor-trailer upright.

The road was cleared about 5 p.m.

Police are investigating the wreck. The driver, whose name was not released, had not been charged Thursday.
