The Friday deadline to apply for fuel assistance for the winter heating season has been extended because of this week's flooding problems around the state.

The deadline for applicants is now Monday .

The fuel assistance program assists with various types of energy sources including electricity, natural and liquid propane gas, oil, kerosene, coal and wood.

People can apply through local social service departments.
