A Roanoke man was hospitalized Wednesday after being shot.

Officers were called about 5 p.m. to the Nu Deli Mart in the 3400 block of Shenandoah Avenue for a report of a man who had been shot, police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said.

The victim, Bobby Phillip Gillespie Jr., 24, had walked into the store, but before police arrived he was driven to the hospital by someone he knew. His condition was unavailable Thursday.

Police said the shooting occurred at a residence in the 700 block of 29th Street.

No arrests have been made and no information about possible suspects has been released.
