A Roanoke College lecture by the biographer of Pope John Paul II scheduled for this evening has been postponed, school officials said.

George Weigel, who had planned to speak at 5 p.m. at the Antrim Chapel on campus, had to cancel his appearance because of a family emergency.

Weigel, a distinguished Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C., is the author of "Witness to Hope," the first volume of his biography of the pope.

Roanoke College said it hopes to reschedule the event and will announce the new date as soon as possible.
