Virginia State Police on Saturday responded to a tip regarding missing Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, but they said no new leads resulted.
Spokeswoman Corrine Geller said investigators received a tip regarding suspicious activity at a motel outside Charlottesville, off Interstate 64, and followed up on it sometime before noon. She said they found nothing of a suspicious nature.
"Each time we get a tip we follow up on it," she said. "We've been getting tips and acting on them throughout the week."
Though she declined to discuss the number of tips received, Geller said reports generally involved sightings of someone who matched Harrington's description.
Geller said the FBI joined the investigation last week, expanding a list that includes law enforcement officials from Charlottesville and Albermarle County, and police from Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia.
Meanwhile, the search continues for Harrington, who vanished Oct. 17 after becoming separated from friends during a Metallica concert at the John Paul Jones Arena at UVa in Charlottesville.
"We're waiting for that one tip that's hopefully going to lead us to Morgan and bring us a peaceful and happy result," Geller said.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3467.
