Lynchburg-based WSET goes on air with digital signal
Those who watch WSET (Channel 13) might have noticed their signal coming in stronger Friday.
That's because at 2:30 that morning, the Lynchburg-based station began broadcasting its digital signal on VHF frequency 13.
WSET news director Bill Foy explained that WSET has been preparing for the switch from analog to digital for years. Since 2004, the station has been broadcasting a digital signal on UHF Channel 34 as well as its analog signal on VHF 13. Some converter boxes likely have been picking up that broadcast and assigning it to Channel 13, he said.
He warned that on Tuesday, the station will stop broadcasting on UHF 34. Viewers should rescan their converter boxes or digital televisions to make sure they are picking up the VHF 13 signal, Foy said.
Those with cable television need not be concerned. "This only affects people who get our signal over the air," Foy said.
