Alleghany to get federal help with sewer lines
Alleghany County is getting $2.7 million in federal recovery act money to help pay for 31,000 feet of sewer lines, U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher's office said.
The money, a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is on top of the $10 million in recovery act funds announced for the county in August. That money is meant to fund construction of a new wastewater treatment plant.
The new money will help the county provide more reliable sewer service to more than 2,500 homes and businesses in the towns of Clifton Forge and Iron Gate and in Alleghany County.
The money is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which President Obama signed in February.
In addition to the $10 million and $2.7 million allocations, Alleghany is also getting a $2.4 million low-interest federal loan to help pay for the sewer lines, according to Boucher's office.
