Forest man dies after crash on U.S. 221 in Bedford Co.
A 23-year-old man from Forest was killed in a crash Thursday night when the car he was driving in western Bedford County smashed head-on into a tractor-trailer, police said.
William Charles Arthur was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier on U.S. 221 northbound past the Goode Country Store about 7 p.m. when the car crossed the yellow lines and smashed against the tractor-trailer, said Sgt. Rob Carpentieri of the Virginia State Police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Michael William West, 52, of Forest was driving a 2009 Volvo tractor hauling general freight, Carpentieri said. He was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
It was unclear whether Arthur was wearing a seat belt. No charges had been filed and the crash remained under investigation late Thursday.
