Giles Co. residents advised to boil water

Giles County authorities announced a boil-water notice Monday afternoon because an equipment failure in the area's water treatment plant prompted crews to pump untreated water into the system.

The advisory is expected to last at least week, the Giles County Public Service Authority said in a news release. The equipment is expected to be repaired by Thursday.

The affected areas included Giles County and the towns of Glen Lyn, Pearisburg, Pembroke, Narrows and Rich Creek.

Electrical equipment failed after a power surge Sunday, the release said. Untreated water was pumped in so the system can provide service and firefighting capabilities until the equipment is repaired.
