Ridgeway woman charged after fight

A Ridgeway woman was charged with attempted murder Saturday after a fight at a Bedford County campground.

Deputies were called to a report of an assault about 10:30 a.m. at Eagle's Roost Camp Ground in Huddleston, according to a news release from the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.

Several people were involved in the incident. Two women had been fighting, and as one of them was driving away, she nearly ran over someone, the news release said. The other woman involved in the fight told investigators that the driver had also hit her in the head. Another victim said that a male in the vehicle had hit him over the head with a beer bottle.

Deputies stopped a vehicle matching the description of the one that had left the campground and arrested Sandra Mikles, 40. She is also charged with assault and battery, conspiracy to commit a malicious wounding and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Jeremy Burgess, 19, of Ridgeway was a passenger in the vehicle and was charged with malicious wounding. A 17-year-old male from Ridgeway who was also in the vehicle was charged with assault and underage possession of alcohol.

Mikles and Burgess are being held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail. The juvenile was taken to a detention center in Lynchburg.
