Two of the four young men charged with trying to kidnap the wife of a dental insurance company CEO pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Roanoke.
Mohammed Hussein Guhad, 20, and Anthony Eugene Boyd-Muse, 18, both of Roanoke, pleaded guilty to conspiring to kidnap, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. Federal sentencing guidelines likely will recommend a shorter sentence.
Their accused co-conspirators, Joshua Kasongo, 19, of Roanoke and Luke Musa Elbino, 20, of Vinton are scheduled to plead guilty Friday.
Several new details of the April 6 attempt to abduct Audrey Levicki, whose husband George Levicki runs Delta Dental of Virginia, came out in Tuesday's court sessions.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Charlene Day said the four then-teens gathered the morning of the attempted kidnapping at an old recreational vehicle parked behind Boyd-Muse's house. They intended to hold their kidnapping victim in the RV. Guhad donned false sideburns, and Elbino put on a stocking cap in which he had cut eyeholes. They wore the disguises when they showed up at the Levickis' home in Roanoke County hours later, Day said.
They had called ahead to make sure George Levicki was not home. Elbino carried a BB pistol in his waistband and stood to the side of the door, where Audrey Levicki could not see him, Day said.
Guhad told Levicki he was conducting a survey for the Red Cross. He carried a notebook and a backpack containing duct tape and a pillow case.
Kasongo waited in Elbino's father's sedan, Day said.
Also, contrary to what was said at earlier hearings, Boyd-Muse was not in class at Patrick Henry High School, where he and Guhad were students, on April 6, Day said.
She added that she was not certain of his whereabouts, though he was not with Guhad, Elbino and Kasongo when they went to the Levickis' house. However, he was in close contact with Guhad via text messages, including a series of messages detailing the approach to the Levickis.
There also was a final message, after Audrey Levicki slammed the door on a masked Elbino's arm and he and Guhad fled to the car, in which Guhad told Boyd-Muse not to text him anymore because police were pulling them over, Day said.
Guhad and Boyd-Muse are scheduled to be sentenced in October.
