Fire kills dog, damages home in Botetourt County
Fire crews responded to a house fire in Botetourt County that killed a dog and caused heavy smoke damage Wednesday evening.
The fire occurred in a house in the 400 block of Gibson Lane in Cloverdale while the owners were at church, said Lt. Dylan Johnson of the Troutville Volunteer Fire Department.
A neighbor placed the call at 6:30 p.m., and crews had the fire under control at 6:45, Johnson said. There were no injuries, but the family's dog died from smoke inhalation, he said. Johnson did not have a damage estimate but said the smoke damage was significant and the basement sustained water damage.
