Police still investigating death of bicyclist at Virginia Tech
Police continued Monday to investigate a crash that killed a bicyclist Thursday on Virginia Tech's campus.
Bonnie Tinker, 61, of Portland, Ore., was riding about 4:30 p.m. when she was struck by a dump truck near the intersection of West Campus and Drillfield drives, officials have said.
Tinker died at the scene.
Virginia Tech police Chief Wendell Flinchum said Monday that police had identified more witnesses to the crash and were interviewing them.
Flinchum said a Virginia State Police Motor Carrier Safety unit inspected the truck, which is owned by William G. Simmons Co. of Narrows and was contracted by the university.
When reports by the state police unit and the New River Valley regional crash team are completed, police will consult with Montgomery County Commonwealth's Attorney Brad Finch to determine whether any charges should be filed, Flinchum said.
