Train hits Roanoke County tractor-trailer, no injuries reported
No one was injured Monday morning when an empty coal train hit a tractor-trailer in Roanoke County, police said.
The train hit the tractor-trailer at the Garman Road crossing in the Glenvar area about 8:15 a.m., Sgt. Mark Jervis said.
An investigation found that the tractor-trailer was stopped on the south side of the tracks because the crossing gate was down while a crew worked at the site, Jervis said.
At some point the gate was raised and the tractor-trailer started across the tracks. It was struck by a westbound Norfolk Southern train, cutting the trailer in half, Jervis said.
Police are still investigating why the gate was raised, he said.
No one had been charged Monday.
