Two Miss Virginia contestants earn scholarships

Miss Hanover Brittany Young and Miss Arlington Caressa Cameron came out on top in Friday night's preliminary swimsuit and talent portions of the Miss Virginia Pageant.

Cameron won a $1,000 scholarship from The Margaret Baker Foundation for her performance of the pop vocal "Listen" from the film "Dreamgirls."

Young won a $500 scholarship as winner of the night's swimsuit competition.

Friday's preliminary at Roanoke Performing Arts Theatre also honored former executive directors of the Miss Virginia organization, Steve and Billie Sue Musselwhite, with Volunteer of the Year awards.

Tonight's Miss Virginia pageant finale will be broadcast at 9 on Virginia television networks -- including WSET (Channel 13) -- and online at www.livestream.com/missvalive.

During the live broadcast, viewers can vote for their favorite finalist via text message, said pageant producer Mark Schreier. Schreier said the text message votes cost 99 cents and standard text messaging fees apply. The finalist with the most text message votes will be awarded a $500 "Viewers Choice" scholarship at the end of the night's competition.

For more information on tonight's text message vote, visit the Miss Virginia organization's Web site at www.missva.com.

Also at the finale, the winner of the Internet vote that began June 1 and ended Friday at 10 p.m. will earn a spot as the pageant's 11th finalist and receive a $500 "People's Choice" scholarship.
