Gas leak closes human services offices
The Roanoke human services offices on Williamson Road were evacuated when a gas leak was reported Friday morning, fire officials said. There were no injuries related to the leak.
Fire and Roanoke Gas Co. crews responded about 11 a.m. to the 1500 block of Williamson Road Northwest and found a gas leak that started when someone opened a bad valve during construction in the building, said Tiffany Bradbury, a Roanoke Fire-EMS spokesperson.
The leak was stopped and the building was ventilated by about 1:30 p.m., said John Williamson, president of Roanoke Gas.
The human services building is expected to reopen Monday, as regularly scheduled.
