Man who sent online threats pleads guilty
A Buchanan County man pleaded guilty last week for online death
threats in 2007 that referenced the April 16, 2007, shootings at
Virginia Tech, U.S. Attorney Julia Dudley announced Monday.
Allen Leon Sammons, 28, of Oakwood pleaded guilty in Abingdon to charges related to threats of violence.
Sammons was indicted earlier this year and charged with five counts of transmitting in interstate commerce a communication threatening to injure the person of another. He pleaded guilty to all five counts.
Court filings allege that in August 2007, Sammons' former girlfriend reported he sent her harassing e-mails and posted threatening comments to her online journal. She was a student at the University of Illinois and he was a community college student in Wise County.
