School board meets over Fleming report
Board members and Superintendent Rita Bishop did not make a statement after the meeting, but School Board Attorney Tim Spencer said the meeting focused on "legal ramifications and appropriate action to be taken by the board."
A report by the Virginia Department of Education last week found that five top administrators at the school manipulated the class schedules of students with disabilities in order to exclude them from state-mandated Standards of Learning tests. The report said the irregularities were engineered by Principal Susan Willis.
Willis has not commented on the report. She was not at Fleming's graduation last week. School officials have declined to talk about her employment status with the school system.
Spencer said the board did not take any personnel action during its closed meeting.
Willis has been Fleming's principal since 2005.
