Southwest Roanoke gas line ruptures amid excavation work
A gas line was ruptured Wednesday in Southwest Roanoke, but no one was hurt.
Tiffany Bradbury, spokeswoman for the Roanoke Fire-EMS Department, said fire crews as well as repair teams from Roanoke Gas Co. responded to the leak near Sixth Street and Luck Avenue.
The incident occurred about 1:30 p.m., according to Roanoke Gas spokeswoman Dale Lee. Lee said a contractor was doing some excavation to build a retaining wall and accidentally cut into the line.
Lee said the only gas customer affected was the Kazim Shrine Temple in the 600 block of Campbell Avenue, and said repairs were completed by about 4:30 p.m.
