U.S. 220 corridor to close during boulder removal

Both lanes of U.S. 220 between Clifton Forge and Iron Gate in Alleghany County will be closed Sunday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. so the Virginia Department of Transportation can remove a large boulder from a nearby slope.

Motorists traveling through this area should use Interstate 81 and I-64 as detours, according to a VDOT news release.

Local motorists traveling between I-64 at Clifton Forge and I-81 should detour around the area by taking exit 21 on I-64 in the Low Moor area. They should then take Selma Low Moor Road to Roaring Run Road to Craig Creek Road back to U.S. 220.
