Accident blocks U.S. 220 south
A multivehicle wreck blocked both southbound lanes of U.S. 220 in Henry County for almost two hours Friday afternoon, but no serious injuries were reported.
The crash, which involved four cars, occurred just before 3:30 p.m. near Greensboro Road, according to Virginia State Police.
According to Trooper J.D. Byrd, a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound in the right lane when it rear-ended a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu that was stopped at a traffic light. The collision caused the Malibu to strike two other vehicles, blocking both lanes.
Byrd said passengers in the other vehicles were taken to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County and Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, N.C. He said their injuries were not serious.
Myrna Morefield of Sandy Ridge, N.C., who was driving the Tahoe, was charged with reckless driving, Byrd said.
Both lanes were reopened by about 5:15 p.m.
