Tuesday, January 06, 2009Franklin County grants tax reliefROCKY MOUNT -- Franklin County residents delinquent on their personal property taxes were given a little relief Monday. At its first meeting of the year, the county board of supervisors voted to suspend interest on taxes paid after the Dec. 31 deadline until July 1. The 10 percent late fee will still apply. Interest will begin to accumulate after the July 1 extension. The choice was one of two options. When originally presented last month, County Administrator Rick Huff also gave the board the option of adding the suspended interest onto bills that still weren't paid by July 1. Treasurer Lynda Messenger said she expects the move to be a big help to some residents. -- Janelle Rucker |
