Crash blocks road, disrupts power
Roanoke County police blocked part of Barrens Road on Monday afternoon after a truck crashed into a utility pole.
According to a police news release, the vehicle struck an Appalachian Power Co. pole in the 8100 block of Barrens Road about 4:20 p.m., and the street was closed to traffic between the 7900 and 8200 blocks. Barrens Road intersects with Peters Creek Road.
A Roanoke County dispatch supervisor said the vehicle was a Chevrolet pickup truck and said no one on the scene was taken to the hospital.
Appalachian spokesman Todd Burns said repairs to the 34,000-volt power line began just before 8:30 p.m. and forced the company to interrupt service to about 1,100 customers. Burns said he expected the repairs to be completed and service restored by midnight.
