Officials: Teen's shooting death appears accidental
A Moneta teenager died Monday after being shot in the chest with a rifle, according to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.
Maj. Ricky Gardner said that deputies were called to a residence in the 3800 block of Saunders Grove Drive just before 5:30 p.m. They found a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the chest, Gardner said. He was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died, according to the sheriff's office.
Gardner said investigators believe the victim's younger brother is the person who fired the shot. He said the shooting appears to be accidental, but the investigation is ongoing.
It was unclear where the shooting occurred.
The victim's sister, who is 16, was in the house at the time of the incident, authorities said. The sheriff's office is not releasing the names of the juveniles involved.

Man charged with robbery in Monday break-in
Roanoke police called to investigate a home invasion robbery early Monday morning arrested one man, police said.
A resident at a house in the 1100 block of Pleasant View Avenue Northwest called police about 12:15 a.m. to report that someone was trying to get in, said Lt. Danny Brabham.
When officers arrived, they saw a man running away from the house.
The officers gave chase and caught the man. Two others got away, Brabham said.
Police charged Gary Wayne Lewis II, 20, of Roanoke with robbery.
Brabham would not say what was taken because of the ongoing investigation.
Three people were home when the robbery happened and were not injured, Brabham said.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY
Funeral is today for teen who died in crash
Funeral services will be held today for a Rockbridge County teenager who died Friday afternoon in a single-car crash.
According to Virginia State Police, Shawna Arrowood, 16, died about 4:30 p.m. Friday when the Honda Accord she was driving ran off Irish Creek Road (Virginia 603), about a mile and a half east of South River Road (Virginia 608). She was alone in the car at the time of the wreck.
Trooper Walt Baker said the car entered a curve, went off the right side of the road and broke through a bridge railing. The car flipped into a creek bed, continued to roll, struck a tree and came to rest on its tires, he said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing her seat belt, and Baker said it appeared that excessive speed contributed to the crash.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Harrison Funeral Chapel in Lexington.
