Former Bedford Co. school official's trial delayed

The man, who used to work in Bedford County, has been charged with killing his wife.

A January trial date for a former high school administrator charged with killing his estranged wife in Bedford County has been pushed back to June.

Wesley Earnest had been scheduled to go on trial Jan. 13 in Bedford County Circuit Court on charges of shooting Jocelyn Branham Earnest, whose body was found in December in her Forest home.

A jury trial in the case was recently rescheduled to begin June 3, according to court records.

Wesley Earnest, who is free on bond, is the former assistant principal of Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake and had worked previously for Bedford County Schools.

Prosecutors have said that a bitter divorce proceeding led up to Jocelyn Earnest's death.

Earnest was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head, with a suicide note left beside her body. However, authorities have said she did not write the note, which had her husband's fingerprints on it.

Prosecutors and Wesley Earnest's attorney, Joseph Sanzone of Lynchburg, could not be reached Wednesday.

Earnest is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of murder.
