Man, 60, charged following Hollins Manor fire

A man was arrested after a fire Saturday night at an assisted-living facility in north Roanoke County, said officials, who did not release the man's name.

The fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. and had broken out in a bedroom at Hollins Manor, in the 7600 block of Williamson Road.

When firefighters responded, heavy smoke filled the hallways of one of the Hollins Manor buildings, said Battalion Chief Daryell Sexton of Roanoke County Fire and Rescue. The fire was under control by about 8:45 p.m., he said.

About 100 residents were evacuated, Sexton said.

A resident tripped on a water hose during the evacuation and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, Sexton said.
