Man dies in Alleghany Co. crash
A Millboro man died Tuesday morning after a wreck Monday night in Alleghany County, according to Virginia State Police.
A dispatcher said the accident occurred about 10:20 p.m. on Virginia 42, about a mile and a half north of Virginia 636.
Charles Arthur Simmons, 50, was traveling northbound in a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck when he ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, crossed the center line, hit an embankment and overturned, the dispatcher said. Simmons was pronounced dead about five hours later at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The dispatcher did not know whether Simmons was alone in the truck. She said that he was not wearing his seat belt.
