2 counties respond in abduction attempt

Authorities in Alleghany and Botetourt counties investigated for the third time in three weeks an abduction-related incident.

The Alleghany County Sheriff's Office received a call about 3:30 p.m. Sunday regarding an attempted abduction in Iron Gate, Lt. Col. Matt Bowser said.

Two girls told authorities that a man driving on U.S. 220 near the intersection of 10th Street tried to abduct them, Bowser said.

The two girls were not identified because they are minors, but Bowser said they described a suspect who was driving a small, green car.

The incident happened just inside the Botetourt County line, but Alleghany deputies were the closest and responded first.

The Botetourt County Sheriff's Office has continued an investigation on the incident and has prepared a composite sketch of the suspect, Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle said.

In early October and late September, two incidents in Clifton Forge were reported where a man jumped inside a woman's vehicle and told her to drive. Clifton Forge is less than three miles from Iron Gate.

The Botetourt County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the most recent incident to call 473-8631.
