Police ID man killed on the job
The Martinsville Police Department has identified a Danville man who was fatally injured Friday in an industrial accident at a Martinsville warehouse.
Carl Wayne Turner, 54, died while removing a commercial-grade air conditioner when the unit shifted and pinned him against a wall, city spokesman Scott Coleman said.
Turner and another worker were removing the unit from the roof of a warehouse on East Commonwealth Boulevard. Coleman estimated that the unit weighs thousands of pounds.
Turner was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured, Coleman said.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident. They have not determined the cause, police said.
