Man arrested in death of ex-Botetourt resident

Fairfax County authorities have made an arrest in the death of a woman originally from Botetourt County who was found in her Falls Church apartment two weeks ago.

Mark Eric Lawlor was arrested and charged Wednesday afternoon with murder in the slaying of 29-year-old Genevieve Paulette Orange, Fairfax County police said.

Orange was found in her apartment Sept. 25 and appeared to have died of blunt force trauma to the upper body, police said.

Orange was the daughter of Marilyn and the late Lloyd Orange of Troutville, according to a death notice in The Roanoke Times. The Facebook profile for Genevieve Orange listed her as a 2001 graduate of Virginia Tech.

She graduated in 1997 from Lord Botetourt High School, where she was an honor student and a member of the band and drama club, said John McLaughlin, a science teacher there.

"I did not teach a class with her, but ... it was a small school at the time, and you get to know everybody," McLaughlin said. "She was very friendly, very kind."

Lawlor, 43, worked and lived in the building where Orange lived, said Officer Shelley Broderick, a Fairfax County police spokeswoman.

"We would not release information on how we came to the arrest prior to the trial," Broderick said.

"She was found dead on Sept. 25, and since then, there was an active homicide investigation, and as a result of that investigation, Mr. Lawlor was arrested."

Lawlor is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
