Man makes off with 88-year-old's purse at drugstore

A man passing himself off as a good Samaritan stole a purse from an 88-year-old woman's walker in a Roanoke drugstore on Saturday, police said.

The woman was at the CVS store in the 1900 block of Orange Avenue about 2 p.m. when the man asked her if she needed help, said Aisha Johnson, a Roanoke police spokeswoman.

The man then snatched the purse off the woman's walker and dashed out the door, running north on 19th Street, she said.

The woman told police that the man had brown hair and some facial hair. He was wearing a gray shirt, a black jacket, khaki pants and a fedora hat.

The woman was not hurt. Police have not made an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call Roanoke police at 853-5959 or the Crime Line at 344-8500.
