RAM fund to honor volunteer

Roanoke Area Ministries announced Monday it has established a memorial fund to honor community volunteer George Rogers.

Rogers, who lived in the city most of his life and for years worked as a volunteer at RAM House, was active in civic and church groups. He was found slain in his home in August.

The George Rogers Fund for the Elderly will be used to help senior citizens with necessities such as rent, utilities and prescriptions.

"This fund will go a long way in helping provide relief to those in our area who need it," Debbie Denison, RAM's executive director, said in a news release. "George would have wanted it that way."

Rogers was 89 when he died. He had worked for Norfolk and Western Railway and the U.S. Postal Service. His death remains under investigation.

Donations to the George Rogers Fund for the Elderly are tax deductible and can be sent to: RAM, 824 Campbell Ave. S.W., Roanoke, VA 24016.
