Carilion's checks ready for workers

Carilion Clinic employees who did not retrieve their paychecks Saturday can pick them up at work today, said Eric Earnhart, Carilion spokesman.

A payroll glitch left about 7,000 employees without pay Friday.

Carilion employees who use direct deposit did not receive money in their accounts because a payroll file was not transmitted to Wachovia, the bank that processes Carilion's direct deposits, Earnhart said. The company distributed checks to employees throughout the region on Saturday.

Carilion is the Roanoke Valley's largest employer. Of its 11,400 employees, 7,000 use direct deposit.
