Roanoker's purse taken at gunpoint

A 21-year-old Roanoke woman was robbed of her purse at gunpoint Wednesday night in Northeast Roanoke, police said.

The woman was walking toward an apartment in the 700 block of Drew Avenue about 8:20 p.m. when she was approached by a male who brandished a gun and demanded money, police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said.

The male, who was wearing a mask, then told the woman to go into the apartment. Police are still investigating why he asked her go inside, Johnson said.

A second male with a bandanna over his face followed the two into the residence, Johnson said.

The person with the gun took the woman's purse, and both males fled in a light-colored sport utility vehicle traveling toward Plantation Road, Johnson said.

The woman was not hurt.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Roanoke police at 853-5959 or the Crime Line at 344-8500.
