Police: Man charged after car hits woman following argument
A woman was assaulted by a man, then injured by his car as he fled the scene in Northwest Roanoke, according to police.
Police said Tuesday the incident occurred Aug. 17 about 10 p.m. in the 4300 block of Williamson Road.
Evelyn Phelps, 27, of Roanoke was assaulted during an argument, according to police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson. As the suspect left in his car, a tire ran over Phelps' arm. She was carried into a residence by friends and taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Anthony Combs, 42, was arrested later that night and charged with aggravated assault, Johnson said.
Johnson said Phelps and Combs knew each other but the incident did not appear to be domestic.
