Woman, 3-year-old injured in accident

A single-vehicle wreck in Giles County sent two people to the hospital Saturday afternoon, state police said.

Trooper R.W. Hughes said that Chadwick Metz, 20, crashed in the White Gate community at 4:20 p.m. The Staffordsville man was driving a Chevrolet S-10 truck on Virginia 670 when he ran off the road and hit a tree. The accident occurred near Virginia 42.

Metz was charged with reckless driving, Hughes said.

Tiffany Michelle Duncan, 19, of Staffordsville and her 3-year-old son also were in the vehicle, the trooper said. They were airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Metz suffered only minor injuries, Hughes said.

Nobody was wearing a seat belt and the child was sitting on his mother's lap, Hughes said.
