Clifton Forge gets manager

Tracey Shiflett will be the next town manager of Clifton Forge.

Shiflett was appointed to the job Wednesday by the town council on a 5-0 vote, according to a news release from the town.

Shiflett will be paid an initial salary of $62,000 and he is scheduled to start on Tuesday.

He holds a bachelor's degree in public administration from James Madison University and a masters in the same field from the University of Virginia. He is also an American Planning Association Certified Planner.

Shiflett, a Staunton native, has more than 20 years of local government service and is a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve. He has worked for the towns of Pulaski and Rocky Mount, the city of Buena Vista and Fluvanna County. He has held management positions in planning and community development, economic development and emergency management.

A reception to introduce Shiflett to the public will be held Tuesday at the Clifton Forge Fire Station starting at 5 p.m.
