Station will accept more trash
Changes in the residential disposal policy at the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority's Tinker Creek Station allow people to bring more loads of trash and also tires.
Effective this week, residents of Roanoke County, Roanoke and Vinton who use the RVRA's Tinker Creek location at 1020 Hollins Road may bring 20 loads of household waste annually at no charge. That's an increase from the previous limit of 12 loads, each defined as a three-quarter-ton pickup truck's bed filled to capacity.
The waste that the facility will accept includes "small amounts of construction and remodeling debris," according to a release from the city of Roanoke.
Tinker Creek hasn't previously accepted tires. There's a limit of four -- for free -- and $2 for each additional tire. The tires must be separated from other waste.
In addition, residents may now obtain special dump permits that allow "as many loads as necessary in one day" for special cleanup projects, according to the release. This service is available only for Roanoke residents.
