Roanoke police arrest 2 men after attempted robbery

Two men have been arrested following an attempted robbery Monday in Northwest Roanoke, police said.

The incident occurred in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Peters Creek Road about 11 a.m., according to Roanoke police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson. Two males approached a third male and allegedly brandished a gun and demanded money. She said the victim did not comply and struggled with the gunman, but no one was hurt and the two suspects fled on foot.

Witnesses later saw them getting into a car at Melrose Avenue and Overbrook Street, Johnson said. An officer spotted the suspects driving in the 3500 block of Williamson Road and attempted to pull them over, but they continued on to the 3100 block of Willow Road, where they were stopped and arrested without incident.

Johnson said that Jamal Donell Steelman, 18, and a 17-year-old male, both of Roanoke, were arrested and charged with attempted robbery.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Roanoke Police Department at 853-5959 or Crime Line at 344-8500.
