Police seek Floyd County man after shooting death

Virginia State Police released the name of a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting Thursday night in Floyd County.

Police spokesman Rob Carpentieri said that Joshua Jonathan Hairston, 18, is being sought.

Police believe the Floyd County man was involved in a shooting that killed a man in the 6000 block of Floyd Highway North, across from the Virginia Department of Transportation shop in the Check area.

No information about the victim or the circumstances surrounding the shooting had been released by officials as of Saturday night.

No one has been charged, Carpentieri said.

Hairston is described as a black male who is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160 pounds. He is believed to have left the Floyd County area and might be armed and dangerous, Carpentieri said.

The Floyd County Sheriff's Office and state police are working together to investigate the shooting.
