Beginning in August, tuition and fees for in-state cadets will rise from $16,156 to $17,000, an increase of $844. For out-of-state cadets, the tuition and cost increases from $32,000 to $33,898 -- or an additional $1,898 per year. Unlike at many other schools, cadets at the nation's oldest state-supported military college are required to live in the college's barracks, making room and board a required fee. Other mandatory fees include the costs of tailoring and laundering uniforms and other military-related activities. Last May, VMI, which has averaged an enrollment of about 1,300 students over the past two years, raised its rates 4.9 percent for in-state cadets. The 5.9 percent increase for out-of-state cadets was the same as last year's increase. |
