Fire claims Montgomery County home, but family members, pets are not hurt
A Montgomery County family was displaced Saturday morning after a fire claimed their home.
The Fort Lewis fire department responded to a call at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lafayette, said David Carroll, the Fort Lewis assistant fire chief.
Fort Lewis firefighters were assisting Elliston firefighters with calls Saturday, Carroll said.
Thick smoke was visible in the mobile home of Charles and Mary Whitt, he said. Carroll said the crew extinguished the flames in 15 minutes.
No one was home when the fire started and the family's two pets were saved, Carroll said.
The home was destroyed in the blaze and the cause is undetermined, Carroll said.
