Free dental clinic, health screenings available this week

The second annual Roanoke Valley Mission of Mercy dental clinic will be held this weekend.

More than 900 volunteers will provide free dental services and medical screenings for diabetes and blood pressure for uninsured adults who attend the clinic.

It will be held from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Roanoke Civic Center.

Doctors and volunteers plan to assist at least 1,300 adults.

The free services are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are not necessary.

The volunteers come from local organizations including the American Red Cross, the CHIP program, Carilion Clinic, schools and churches.

For more information or to volunteer, call Carilion Direct at 981-7079 or go to www.councilofcommunityservices.com.
