A dinner honoring Korean War veterans will be held Sunday at Virginia Tech's Squires Student Center, and the sponsors are spreading the word that there are plenty of seats available at the event.

"Korean veterans are a little hard to find. We want to honor those who served for my country," said HaeShin Yoo, pastor in a new, Charlottesville-based nonprofit group called Healing Peace. His organization is funding the dinner, starting at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The dinner will be followed at 6:30 by a Korea-Japan Cultural Show sponsored by Virginia Tech's Korean American Student Association and Japanese Cultural Association.

Korean War veterans will be invited to share remembrances from the war. HaeShin said he is working with the 32-member New River Valley chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association and expects about half of that group to attend.

Admission is free, and reservations can be made by calling (540) 641-1444, or e-mailing haeshin@HealingPeace.org.

The Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953, resulted in 54,000 U.S. dead and 103,000 wounded.
