2 drivers in fatal crash out on bond
The two drivers charged with involuntary manslaughter in a crash that killed a Vinton man early Wednesday have both been released on bond.
At a hearing Friday afternoon, Roanoke County General District Court Judge Vincent Lilley set a bond for 42-year-old Tracie Nininger at $50,000.
Tony Anderson, who has been retained as her attorney, told the judge that all Nininger's family ties are in the Roanoke Valley and that she was willing to agree to any restrictions the judge deemed necessary.
Lilley ordered that Nininger submit to daily drug and alcohol screening.
Jeffrey Dupree, 32, was assigned a $5,000 bond by a magistrate and bonded out Thursday, said Roanoke County Commonwealth's Attorney Randy Leach.
He is scheduled to appear in court Monday for an arraignment hearing, Leach said.
Both have been charged with driving under the influence and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Richard Slone.
According to police, as Slone was standing by a dump truck in a construction zone on Electric Road near Tanglewood Mall, a Hummer H3 driven by Nininger crashed into a nearby backhoe. At almost the same time, a Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Dupree crashed into Nininger's car. The backhoe pinned Slone against the dump truck. He died from his injuries.
Police have said Nininger and Dupree were drinking together at a downtown Roanoke bar before the wreck.
